The 45,000-square-foot facility would consist mostly of hangar space (35,133 square feet) with some office and warehouse at 18301 Edison Ave., plans show. The parcel sits a quarter of a mile from AVMATS’ headquarters at 18377 Edison Ave.

As the business aviation market has improved — the global industry is projected to grow 2 percent to $251 billion next year, according to Honeywell’s Global Business Aviation Outlook — the company needed additional space, President Justin Giessman told the Business Journal.

The new hangar will accommodate four Gulfstream V aircraft and AMVATs’ existing maintenance programs on the Gulfstream, Falcon and Challenger aircraft platforms, he said. The company has 50,000 square feet of hangar space at Spirit and an additional 20,000 square feet at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, Illinois.

The hangar is at least a $3 million investment, according to St. Louis County records. The company did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

MW Weber Architects, Contegra Construction, Stock & Associates and DeLong Landscape Architecture are attached to the project.

The city Planning Commission approved AVMATS’ plans in October. It is not clear when the City Council will review the project.

AVMATS is led by Chairman and CEO Butch Giessman and President Justin Giessman.
